Day 8: Basecamp Kingston, TN

After spending night 7 in Ragland Bottom Campground, near Sparta, TN, Day 8 was another travel day as I looked for a basecamp to set up my visit to the Smoky Mountains. I settled in at the Riley Campground near Kingston, TN., on the Tennessee River.

After setting up camp I drove into Kingston and visited Fort Southwest Point, the only fort in Tennessee reconstructed on its original foundation. http://www.southwestpoint.com/history.htm

Fort Southwest Point was constructed in 1797 and remained a working fort through 1811 when it was deemed that soldiers were no longer needed. At its peak there were over 625 Soldiers stationed here.
